What's The Difference Between A Vertical Carve-Out And A Horizontal Carve-Out?

Learn the terminology and options related to selling lottery payments.

ow what these two terms mean then you're a lot more knowledgeable than the average structured settlement holder. These two terms don't appear to have any relative bearing on the actions they refer too.

A vertical carve-out is when you sell all of your structured settlement that you've received from a lottery winning to a third party. A horizontal carve-out is when you sell only a portion of it. They are certainly odd terms and most people wouldn't have a clue to what they actually meant, but they are the legal terms used in a court of law in relation to these types of structured settlement sales. Happy carving!
